Afterschool Activities

 

Oceanside Middle School


The OMS Afterschool Program is FREE to all students of RSU13! FREE programming--FREE bussing (if needed) and FREE snacks are provided!



Afterschool Activities for Oceanside Middle School Session 1 will run:

 

  • Oct 6th-December 18th 
  • M-TH ( Program will not run on school closures or early release days
  • Dismissal until 4:15 PM.

Students will gather after school at OMS and be transported to the Flanagan Community Center (FCC), located at  61 Limerock St. in Rockland, via district buses. There is a bus option home for those who need it!

Session 1 Club Options: Dismissal until 4:15 PM


FCC Hangout: Club runs daily , all 3 sessions,, M-TH, based out of the FCC game room. 


A flexible safe-space to decompress and join in on enriching experiences. Along with having access to the FCC game room amenities (pool table, air hockey, and foosball) and open gym basketball court, students have the option to participate in and help plan a rotating selection of activities provided by our staff, including: cooking, outdoor walks and physical activity, STEM projects, arts and crafts, BINGO, Board games, movie days, team activities, LEGO builds, visits from local organizations, and more. Students may also choose to use this time to work on homework or read! 


Students will have access to their devices when needed and at designated times, however we will encourage and promote a device free environment!



Additional Seasonal Club Options: Dismissal until 4:15PM


*Students signed up for the seasonal clubs will have the option to join in on the FCC hangout days as a back up if there is a seasonal club cancellation. 


Mondays: 

Owls Head Transportation Museum Fablab: OHTM instructors will provide STEM experiences (on-site at the FCC and off-site at OHTM) offered through our FCC Hangout on a rotating schedule. Indicate if your student would be interested in this option in the registration below.

 *Students will need a permission waiver for transportation with our district approved volunteer driving staff in order to participate off-site during their scheduled rotation. Limit 4 students per week for off-site STEM. 




Tuesdays:

Outdoor Cooking Club: Students will learn the fundamentals of outdoor and campfire cooking in a safe, structured, and engaging environment. Learn how to build and maintain a contained fire, prepare meals using simple ingredients, and cook using traditional campfire techniques. Students will also discuss and explore general fire safety, wildfire risks, and engage in various games and activities.

Each session will focus on a specific skill and recipe, progressing from simple snacks to more advanced campfire meals. Along the way, students will develop confidence, teamwork, and practical life skills.

*Outdoor cooking involves open flames, hot surfaces, and sharp tools. Safety is our highest priority and there will be a zero tolerance policy regarding any behaviors deemed unsafe.


Wednesdays: 

FCC Arts in Action Art Studio: Join local teaching artists in our FCC art studio room. Rotating artists will provide guided instruction on a variety of fine-arts projects.  Sign up now and then  check out what projects are on the schedule. Join us for one or more Wednesdays, depending on the length of the workshops–Sewing, painting, soft sculpture, drawing, and lots more will be offered throughout the year.  Students will be updated on current teaching artists/ projects and can participate in new projects or continue to work on self-directed projects with the help of veteran art students and teachers.


Studio capacity is limited, no more than 6-8 OMS students artists per day.
